Holistic Counselling

Counselling is basically talking over anything that may be concerning you in your life. Holistic counselling is a type of counselling that takes into account the holistic nature of you - Your surroundings, your family, your work, your work, your life and your feelings and thoughts. It sees human difficulties as opportunities for growth and development. It takes into account the body, mind and spirit. A healing approach is taken, encompassing working with the “whole” individual in context of their “whole” environment. Holistic counselling provides understanding and support in a private caring environment that is totally confidential (the therapist signs a confidentiality agreement and is bound by the code of conduct from the Australian Counselling Association).

When should I seek counselling?
Counselling is valuable at any time in your life and for any reason – it is never too late or too soon to start. You can come to counselling for:
· career guidance
· relationship issues
· families matters
· parenting issues
· anxiety
· grief
· stress
· well being
· trauma
· personal issues
· anger management
· depression.

The session primarily entails sitting in the therapy room talking. There may also be other activities that are integrated (as needed), for example creative drawing, visualisation, story writing, meditation, breathing or movement. This is entirely dependent on your own processes and what you are working with.

The approach used is primarily one of process orientated psychology. That means looking at what is the primary (or obvious) process and then uncovering the secondary or underlying processes. By bringing them to the fore we gain greater awareness of who we are and what is right for our lives.

Each session is 1 hour and will be extended if needed. The number of sessions needed varies with the individual and with what they bring. On average it is advisable to have a few sessions to start with.

The cost of a session is $ 70 – discounts for pensioners and students are available. If the session goes for longer than an hour then the rate will be discussed.
